North Lake once had a Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW) mainline and a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) branch line. Today, the C&NW is owned by Union Pacific Railroad, while the former Milwaukee Road is part of the Bugline Trail.
