Dakota City once had a Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW) secondary line and a Minneapolis & St. Louis Railway (M&StL) secondary line. Today, both lines have been abandoned. The former C&NW and portions of the former M&StL have since been reused as part of the Three Rivers Trail.
