Wells once hosted a number of railroads. The Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW), Soo Line and Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad (E&LS) all operated mainlines in the city. Today, the C&NW mainline and the Soo Line mainline are owned by Canadian National Railway, while E&LS continues to operate their track.
