Kaukauna was once a major industrial city, located along the Fox River. The city was served by two mainlines of the Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW), one on each side of the river. Today, Canadian National Railway continues to operate the line on the north side of the river, while the line south of the river has been converted to a trail.
