Farmer City once had two railroads, including an Illinois Central Railroad (IC) mainline and the Peoria & Eastern Division of the Big Four Railroad, later New York Central Railroad (NYC). Today, the IC is owned by Canadian National Railway, while the NYC has been abandoned.
