Emmetsburg once had a Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad (Rock Island) secondary line and a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) secondary line. Today, the former Rock Island is owned by Union Pacific Railroad, while the former Milwaukee Road is owned by CPKC.
