Bessemer once had a Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW) mainline, a Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway (DSS&A) mainline and a Wisconsin Central Railway (WC) branch line. Today, the C&NW and WC have been reused for trails, while the DSS&A is owned by Canadian National Railway. In addition, the C&NW and WC operated a number of mine spurs throughout the area.
