Alton once had a Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway (Omaha Road) mainline and a Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW) secondary line. Today, the former Omaha Road is operated by Union Pacific Railroad, while the former C&NW has been abandoned.
