Escanaba was once a major port city, and hosted a number of railroads. The Chicago & North Western Railway (C&NW) operated both a mainline and a secondary line in the city, while the Soo Line and Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad (E&LS) operated mainlines as well. Today, the C&NW mainline and a portion of the Soo Line mainline are owned by Canadian National Railway, while the C&NW secondary line and remainder of the Soo Line have been reused as a trail. In addition, the E&LS continues to operate their track.
