South Lawndale is a community area in Chicago, located on the west side of the city. The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (CB&Q) operated a mainline along north side of the community, the Pennsylvania Railroad operated along the east border of the community, and the Belt Railway of Chicago (BRC) operated along the western border of the community. Both the Illinois Central Railroad (IC) and the Chicago & Illinois Western Railway (C&WI) operated lines in the southern portion of the community. In addition, the "L", an elevated rapid transit line, operated lines through the area. Today, the CB&Q is owned by BNSF Railway; the IC and C&IW are owned by Canadian National Railway, the PRR is owned by CSX Transportation and the BRC continues to operate independently. The CTA "L" continues to operate the Pink Line in the area.
