Story County, Iowa

Story County is the geographical center of Iowa. It was named after Jefferson Story, a Supreme Court Justice
It is located one county north of the capitol, Des Moines. It is a hub for rail, and it contains many important highways.
Interstate 35 and US-30 are the most important routes, and the Clinton Subdivision of the Union Pacific, along with the Mason City Subdivision of the UP as well are the important rail routes.
Rail development in Story County helped develop the entire west.
The largest city is Ames, the home of Iowa State University; and the seat is Nevada, about 8 miles east of Ames.
It borders Hamilton, Hardin, Marshall, Jasper, Polk and Boone Counties.
