South East Minnesota Region

South East Minnesota features the most diverse landscape in Minnesota. It contains 23 Counties.

The western part of the section, especially along I-90 is some of the flattest land in Minnesota.

However, along the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, as well as Fillmore and Houston County; the landscape features heavy bluffs and valleys.

Rochester, which is the largest city at 111,402 (2013), is a major hub for medical development with the Mayo Clinic.

The area also contains several smaller rivers, although the area has numerous cities, as railroads criss-crossed the area.

Major cities include Rochester, Mankato, Winona, New Ulm, Faribault, Owatonna and Austin.
