Muscatine County is located in east central Iowa, along the Mississippi River. There is dispute how the county got the name, but it could be from Muscatine Island.
The seat and largest city are both Muscatine, one of the oldest towns in Iowa.
It borders Cedar, Scott, Louisa and Johnson Counties in Iowa, as well as Rock Island County in Illinois.
Main highways through the county include US-6, US-61, IA-22, IA-38, IA-70 and IA-92.
