Lyman County is located in western South Dakota. It is named for W.P. Lyman, a politician.
The seat is Kennebec while the largest community is Lower Brule.
Lyman County borders Hughes, Hyde, Buffalo, Brule, Gregory, Tripp, Mellette, Jones, Stanley and Charles Mix Counties.
Main highways through the county include I-90 and US-83, US-183 and SD-47.
