The town grew up with the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy building a mainline through the town, and the Wabash Railroad building a small spur into the town from Illinois.
Today, the CB&Q is now a BNSF Mainline; while the Wabash has become a shortline known as the Keokuk Junction Railway.
