Iron County is located in northern Wisconsin. It is named for the iron rich deposits in the area.
The seat and largest city are both Hurley. The Montreal River forms a border of the county.
Iron County borders Vilas, Price and Ashland Counties in Wisconsin, as well as Gogebic County in Michigan.
Main highways through the county include US-2, US-51, WI-47, and WI-77.
