Haakon County is located in western South Dakota. It is named for Haakon VII, a Norwegian King.
The seat and largest city is Philip. The Bad River flows through the county.
Custer County borders Ziebach, Stanley, Jones, Jackson and Pennington Counties.
Main highways through the county include US-14, SD-34, SD-63 and SD-73
