Cloud County is located in north central Kansas. It is named for William F. Cloud, an officer in the Union Army. The county was originally named Shirley County.
Both the seat and largest city is Concordia. It borders Republic, Clay, Washington, Ottawa, Jewell and Mitchell Counties. Main highways include US-81, US-24, K-9 and K-28.
